Overview

Setting up a rental product makes one of your existing Shopify products available to rent. A short guided wizard walks you through three steps: choose the product, set how many units you have to rent, and pick the pricing template that decides what customers pay. Once a product is set up, it appears in your Rental inventory list and — after you add the rental calendar block to your theme — customers can pick rental dates right on the product page.

Before you start

Make sure both of these are in place before you open the wizard.

A pricing template exists

At least one rental pricing template must already exist. Templates live under Rentals → Pricing and define what customers pay per rental period.

The product exists in Shopify

The product you want to rent must already exist in your Shopify catalogue. The wizard uses Shopify’s product picker to select it.
If no pricing template exists yet, the wizard shows a warning and you won’t be able to finish setup. Create one first under Rentals → Pricing, then come back. See Rental pricing templates.

Open the wizard

  1. Go to Shopify AdminCirculy Rental & SubscriptionsRentalsInventory.
  2. Click Add a rental product.
    • On your first visit, the page is empty and shows a Set up your first rental product panel with the Add a rental product button.
    • Once you have rental products, use the Add rental product action at the top of the Rental inventory page.
The Add a rental product wizard opens in a single window. Later steps stay locked until the earlier ones are filled in.

Walk through the wizard

1

Choose a product

Click Select product to open Shopify’s product picker, then choose the product you want to rent. After picking, the product title is shown — use Change if you selected the wrong one.
2

Set rental capacity

In Units available to rent, enter how many of this product you have on hand to rent out. This must be a whole number of 1 or more.
3

Pricing & inventory

Choose the Pricing template that should apply to this product — this decides what customers pay. Then confirm the Inventory mode:
4

Add to rental inventory

Click Add to rental inventory. We create one inventory record per variant, and the product becomes rentable.
If the chosen product or variant has Shopify stock tracking turned on with “stop selling when out of stock”, the wizard blocks setup. Rental availability is tracked by Circuly, not by Shopify’s stock count, so you must turn that tracking off for rental products. See the rental inventory model for the full explanation.

After setup

1

Add the calendar block to your theme

For customers to book rentals, the rental calendar block must be added to your product page in the Shopify Theme Editor. See Theme extension setup and the rental booking flow.
2

Find it in the inventory table

The product now appears in the Rental inventory list with its capacity and assigned pricing template, alongside live counts of how many units are available, rented, on hold, or out of service.
3

Edit capacity later

To change a product’s rental capacity or pricing template, open it from the Rental inventory list and update it there.
Already have active rental subscriptions from before? Use Sync from active rentals on the Rental inventory page to import them instead of setting each one up by hand.
