How billing works

circuly uses Shopify’s built-in billing system to charge a monthly plan fee and a commission on the subscription and rental revenue it bills for you. Each plan comes with a 14-day free trial, once: the first time you pick a plan you have not had before, the trial starts. Going back to a plan you already had is billed from day one.

Plans

Plans are billed monthly. Yearly billing is no longer offered: Shopify cannot charge a commission on a yearly app subscription, so the two could not be combined. If you already pay yearly, nothing changes for you until you switch plans. Plans differ by features, not by volume: there is no limit on active subscriptions, rentals or orders on any plan. The comparison on the Pricing page shows which features each plan includes.
Stores that installed circuly before September 2026 on the Free plan keep it. Free is no longer available to new stores: after setup, a new store picks one of the three plans and the trial starts.

Monthly plan fee

Your plan includes a fixed monthly fee that covers access to the app and its features. This is charged automatically through Shopify’s app billing system.

Commission on subscription and rental revenue

When a customer pays for a subscription or rental order that circuly manages, circuly charges a commission on that order. Orders that circuly does not bill, such as regular one-time purchases, never carry commission. The rate depends on your plan. Shopify requires a monthly usage cap on every commission line, so the terms you approve read “up to €5,000 per 30 days”. This is Shopify’s billing safeguard, not a plan limit: if your commission would pass it you can raise the cap yourself in Shopify admin under Settings → Billing.

Safety guarantees

circuly is designed to never over-charge you. Multiple safeguards are built into the billing system.
circuly automatically identifies which subscriptions belong to your circuly plans. If you use other subscription apps alongside circuly, you’ll never be charged commission for orders from those apps, only for subscriptions managed through circuly.

Only circuly subscriptions are charged

Every subscription plan created through circuly is marked with an internal ownership tag. When an order comes in, circuly checks this tag before charging commission. Orders from other subscription apps are automatically excluded.

No double-charging on renewals

Renewal orders (recurring billing for existing subscriptions) are handled separately from initial orders. circuly ensures each order is only charged once, through the correct billing channel.

Safe by default

If circuly ever can’t determine whether an order belongs to one of your circuly plans, it will skip the charge rather than risk billing you incorrectly. The system is designed to under-charge rather than over-charge.

Yes, at any time from the Pricing page in the app. Moving up starts a new plan through Shopify’s approval screen; moving down takes effect the same way. Features above your new plan stop working until you move up again, and your subscription contracts keep billing throughout.
